Troubleshoot Wi-Fi drops on one Windows computer by comparing devices, adapter settings, driver changes and coverage.
Try these checks in order
Save work if possible. Complete one check at a time and retest the original symptom. Stop when the issue is resolved.
01Compare devices and location
Test another device on the same Wi-Fi at the same time, then test the affected PC near the router and in its usual room.
02Check PC-side changes
Check adapter status, power management and recent driver updates. If you control the VPN and policy allows, compare briefly without it.
03Use supported troubleshooting
Record VPN and network settings before using Windows' network troubleshooter or reset. Router-wide issues belong on the dedicated router site.
How to read the result
One-device drops call for PC-side investigation; coordinated drops across devices point toward network equipment or the provider.
Compare one device with the rest of the network
If all devices drop together, check the router, modem and provider path before changing the computer. If only this PC disconnects, compare its connection near the router, check the Wi-Fi adapter status and look for a recent driver or power-management change. A Wi-Fi connection that stays up but loses internet is a different symptom from the wireless link disconnecting.
Before changing more settings: Note whether the Wi-Fi icon disconnects or only internet access fails, the time pattern, whether other devices drop, router distance, and adapter model.
Do not bypass workplace network policy or disable endpoint protection. Changing router settings for a single-device fault may cause more disruption.
Model-specific reference note
Windows menus and recovery options vary by version and device. Use the exact Windows version, device model and error message when checking your next step. This guide keeps the diagnostic steps together so you can continue troubleshooting without leaving SafeCode.
